Well, after a few visits to this site, I've decided to sign up! I tried out this game a couple of years ago and, based on what was in the introductory set, I wasn't that impressed. The daleks far out-gunned the UNIT troops and the rules just didn't seem meaty enough to me...
However, I recently had a glance over the advanced rules and profiles (courtesy of this site) and there's a lot of stuff in there that I like the look of. Quite why it took me two or three years to get round to looking at the advanced rules, I'll never know, but now I want to try and get back into this game.
Unfortunately for me, I flogged my miniatures on ebay (I actually did quite well out of the four daleks - happy days) so I'll need to raid the Black Tree online store and restock my supplies of moulded metal. I suppose the thing to do is build up the dalek and UNIT forces first and then add a few others - Sea Devils and Sontaran look pretty interesting so will probably come next...
So, what point value do most folks play at? I'm thinking around 30 points for a pretty good skirmish. Any better ideas? And are there ever any official events for this game? Like tournaments or demo games at conventions? I realise I've probably missed the game's heyday by about a decade or so and am maybe being a little optimistic but I thought I'd ask...
Cheers!

30-35 points makes for a most satisfactory game (I'd like to try very much higher, but it'd cost). I'd recommend starting by buying two copies of the game from BTD, as it's the cheapest way to get Daleks and UNIT soldiers (£16 for the game, which comes with about £24 of pieces, plus a rulebook, and the more rulebooks the better).
I've never tried a Sontarans or Sea Devils battle (the former are rather ugly pieces, and the latter have yet to excite me by reappearing in New Who, though I suspect this'll have changed within the year). My preference is for a large Dalek army, with plenty of Ogrons/Robomen/henchmen, which adds variety, but means the stats are consulted very frequently.
